Alana Bray | Yoga Bound

Owner of Yoga Bound, Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist and Holistic Health Counselor.

Alana received her training in yoga and nutrition from sources rich in both tradition and cutting edge scientific knowledge. She believes that Yoga and nutrition are similar, as not just one theory is correct. She has taken the best from every theory and used these ideas to serve her clients and students.

She obtained her Yoga Therapy Training at Loyola Marymount University Yoga Therapy Rx program. In this program is where Alana met her teacher, Sherry Brourman. Sherry is a world renown Physical Therapist, Yoga Therapist and author of Walk Yourself Well. For two years, Alana worked in a clinical internship program studying under Sherry and assisting her Yoga Therapy classes in Los Angeles.

Alana shares… “I love to use my training as a way to help my students find their fluid, graceful movement patterns as they move through a Yoga class. My classes are thoughtfully sequenced against the background of an inspired playlist. I use my words to guide you through the sequence, as well as a way to understand how to engage important points of stability in the body, so that fluid movements and easy breathing become accessible. The number one goal in my Yoga class is to make sure that you experience life inside your body. This breath and this moment with Yourself is what is savored and taken with you off the mat.”

Later, Alana received her training as a Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition‘s cutting-edge Health Coach Training Program. During this training, she studied over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts. Her teachers included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotional eating; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities. Alana’s education has equipped her with extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health.

Drawing on her skills in nutrition and Yoga, as well as her knowledge of different human physiological theories, Alana works with her students to help them meet lifestyle goals that produce real and lasting results.

Kristina Kuzmich, Manager

936819_10151646716783179_361033300_n-1Studio Manager at Yoga Bound, 200 E-RYT, Certified Massage Therapist, owner of Mindful Evolution, a goal setter, driven enthusiast and cOMmunity leader. She lives in the beach town of Cardiff/Encinitas and she teaches throughout the North County of San Deigo weekly SmartFLOW® yoga classes, restoratives, workshops as well as host local and international yoga retreats.

At a young age, growing up in the American Midwest, Kristina was first influenced by her pastor father, who instilled a strong idea and respect for discipline. Her trainings in Tibetan Buddhist Meditation while studying at Naropa University in Boulder, CO only deepened her personal insight and intrigue with the human body and the mind/body healing potential. Kristina holds over 1000 hours in massage therapeutics, has a bachelors degree in both psychology and in women’s studies, and continues to train, study, assist and mentor under her teacher, master yoga teacher and creator of SmartFLOW® Yoga, Annie Carpenter.  After a long and rocky journey in her mid to late 20′s as a sommelier and manager in the fine dining business, Kristina left the industry and its party lifestyle to pursue her path of living mindfully.

Before moving to San Diego, Kristina lived in the ski town of Vail, Colorado where she directed a yoga studio, led yoga workshops, taught weekly yoga classes and held a yoga teaching immersion for newer yoga teachers. Kristina is a council member for Bridges Between, serving as the Director of Public Relations, helping to promote literacy, health and agricultural education among women and families in rural Nepal. Her love for community, personal growth and helping others to evolve is a huge part of her living yoga, what she calls, her Living Mindful Evolution - LivingME! She is a yoga ambassador for Manduka, Ahnu and lululemon athletica.

Jean -Christophe

Jean-Christophe is a passionate assertive instructor, born and raised in Southern California, he spent his summers discovering the endless beauties of both the Pacific Ocean and the English Channel in Normandy, France. After graduating from USD in 2001, Jean worked as a surf guide and instructor in Costa Rica. While surfing he sustained a severe concussion and eventually sought out relief through Hatha Yoga. Soon, he felt fully recovered, strengthened and more flexible than ever. More importantly, he experienced a deep shift in consciousness. In 2005, Jean moved to Encinitas, where he began studying yoga at the Synergy Yoga Center and soon became an apprentice teacher. During this time he also began his meditative studies which continue to be the very core of his practice. Jean has integrated Yoga instruction throughout his vocational work with developmentally disabled adults and with his academic mentoring work with young students. In 2010, Jean completed the Willows’ Anusara Yoga Training Intensive under the warm guidance of Sherry Schreck. His passion for yoga meditation recently led him to India where he continued his Hatha studies under the vigorous  direction of Raj Vajpayee at the Om Shanti Yoga Niketan of Varanasi.   Jean continues to deepen his hatha yoga practice by studying under his dear teacher Timo Jiminez. His work as a surf instructor and massage therapist continues to allow him to enrich his knowledge of the body, mind and soul connection. Jean-Christophe remains to be a student just as much as a teacher and looks forward to joining his students on their journey of joy, self-discovery, healing and expansion. Learn more at

Summer Athena Fah

SummerSummer Athena Fah was born and raised in Hawaii by a yogini/gypsy. Mainly living off the land and  traveling the world in a way of life deeply rooted in harmony with mother nature. Summer began a consistent yoga practice at 15 in 2006. She fell in love with this challenging and artistic approach to movement. In the fall of 2010 she moved to Encinitas to learn, grow and strengthen mentally and physically within the vast yoga community.  Her classes are influenced  by the grace and beauty within many styles including Vinyasa, Vini Yoga, Anusara, Ashtanga,  Restorative/therapeutic, Swasthya and more. Within each class there is a focus on variations/modifications, so that beginner to advanced students can feel supported in evolving their practice.

Stephanie Fenske

StephanieStephanie Fenske grew up in the small beautiful desert town of Joshua Tree, California. Captivated by coastal living she moved to Carlsbad in 2006 where her love of yoga began. Yearning to develop a greater understanding of yoga she had the honor of having Lynda Light as her mentor and has received her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training through Light and Love Yoga.  She became inspired to guide others on their own personal journey so that they too can experience the bliss, soothing energy, and spiritual connection that her yoga path has given her. She teaches classes that are gentle and bring the body, mind, and spirit to a rested state as she guides you to discover your intuition, breath, and energy chakras. Stephanie also has the passion to help people recognize the nurturing effect and power that whole foods has on the body.  Stephanie is a degreed Nutritionist and is a Certified Nutrition Consultant through the Natural Healing Institute located in Encinitas. Through Yoga and Nutrition her intention is to bring light and wellness to those around her.


Victoria Klein

VictoriaIntroduced to Yoga in 2000 at a gym in Connecticut, Victoria’s personal practice has taken her through a crippling post-high-school era of depression and anxiety, 3 cross-country relocations, & the general rollercoaster of life. In 2012, she fulfilled a major item on her bucket list by graduating from the True Nature School of Yoga 200-Hour program in Oceanside, CA & eagerly began teaching as an RYT 200. In 2013, Victoria is continuing her educational journey by taking a 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training program, progressing toward an RYT 500 designation.

Also a professional freelance writer since 2005, Victoria’s first book, “27 Things to Know about Yoga”, was published in 2010. She previously worked the front desk at the well-known Yoga Tree studios in San Francisco & in the production department at Yoga Journal Magazine. In her spare time, you’ll find Victoria cooking, running, taking lots of pictures, being a Marine Corps spouse, and infusing Yoga into her entire life.

Victoria’s Yoga classes are a dynamic blend of effort & ease, sweating & relaxation, with numerous opportunities & options given to make each individual class easier or harder, depending on how you feel that day. Shelly Scott

Shelly ScottShelly began her yoga practice in 2001 when her kids were young and in pre school. Physically it was fun and challenging, mentally it was a way to turn down the volume of her busy life. Shelly’s passion and practice grew and in 2006 and she completed the Roots and Wings 200 hour teacher training with Lisette Hart. She started teaching regularly in studio and privately. Shelly has had an opportunity to work with High School and Middle School athletes both boys and girls. She loves to see them expanding their minds and bodies to something new and different and to step away from the competitive side of things for a while. She also likes to bring the practice to people in their workplace having taught school teachers on campus, as well as nurses and staff at several hospitals. Most of her teaching has been in studio teaching vinyasa flow style yoga classes. She prides herself in sequencing a class to offer safe options for all students. Currently an E-RYT, Shelly has been expanding her teaching through a wonderful Yoga Therapy internship taught by Yoga Bound owner, Alana Bray Barrey.She enjoys expanding her mind and body through many workshops with many different teachers. Her passion in teaching comes from her own practice; down to earth real life on and off of the mat. She has experienced the benefits of yoga and loves to see or hear students experience the same in their own practice. Shelly says, “Our practice on the mat teaches us it’s not about accomplishing the most challenging pose but how we approach it. We can then take that practice and use it in our daily life. I believe that our practice not only effects us but all of those around us. When we connect with that quiet place within and leave our mat a more calm and centered person we can’t help but effect others.”

Louise McDougall

Louise McDougalGrowing up on a small Island off the coast of England instilled in Louise a life long love for the beauty of nature, simple living and handstands. She attended her first yoga class at 19 and in her twenties while travelling through SE Asia, she became influenced by Eastern philosophy. After having her children, Louise re-discovered her yoga practice, and this eventually led her to Lisette Hart’s Roots and Wings Teacher Training.
Louise loves sharing the many gifts that she has found through her yoga and meditation practices, the awareness of mind, body and spirit, that comes with the connection of fluid movement and breath, and the peace and calmness of journeying inward.Louise says, “My aim is that you leave my class feeling better than when you walked in.”Louise is a Gardener, Pranic Energy Healer and long time Meditator. Married, and the mother of two crazy wonderful teens. She is blessed to have had many incredible and inspiring teachers throughout her life and currently, she is studying Yoga Therapy with Alana Bray Barrey, Owner of Yoga Bound.

Phebi Foli

PhebiPhebi was born at home, underwater and raised in De Luz; an unincorporated area in the mountains of North County San Diego.  Phebi was brought up by a Chiropractor Father and Naturopathic Mother, and has lived the Chiropractic lifestyle since birth. Growing up on a “farm” with horses, dogs, cats, chickens, avocado groves, and fruit trees with a lake at the bottom of the hill has shaped Phebi into who she is today. She has always lived a very active lifestyle, running, swimming, snowboarding, surfing, biking, etc .

Her first yoga class ever was at the beach in the summer of 2009 with people she intuitively had to meet. After that she was hooked, doing anything she could to practice; whether it was cleaning toilets or wiping down sweaty yoga mats. Phebi completed her 200 HR Power Yoga teacher training at Corepower Yoga Encinitas in Summer 2012. Phebi’s creative flows are inspired from Power yoga, Vinyasa yoga, Ashtanga, Anusara, Rocket Yoga, Bikram, Hatha, and yin yoga. She is a fun, passionate yoga instructor, dedicated to living and sharing a holistic lifestyle through chiropractic, yoga, massage, and organic whole foods.

She is recognized for creating a warm, loving, safe, stress-free environment from her innate peaceful energy. Phebi loves to play with the balance of strength and surrender, modifying each class to her student’s needs. In her free time you will find her with her two kittens; Chandler and Joey, at the beach, in the ocean, at a health food store, painting, or in her studies. She is currently earning her HHP in Massage Therapy and soon studying at Life Chiropractic College West. Phebi challenges herself everyday to be fully alive and connected to the ocean.

Alisha Welch

Alisha WelchAlisha Welch 200 E-RYT, Holistic Nutritionist and owner of Mindful Balance.
Alisha is a native of Colorado and enjoys an active lifestyle spent practicing yoga, snowboarding, gardening, hiking, camping, cooking healthy meals, and adventurous travel. On her many journeys across the globe, her experiences have led her to continually strive to find the connection and balance between mind, body, spirit and the environment around her.
Alisha met her first yoga teacher while living in Kailua, Hawaii. As her journey began to influence other aspects of her life, she fell in love with the practice and began to crave more. In 2005 she received her 200 hr. teacher training at Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in the Catskills of New York. Her style of yoga instruction reflects upon all of the teachers that she has studied with over the years. Her vinyasa classes offer a varied and challenging practice of strength, stability and focus. The flow of the class is well-balanced and led by clear instruction that guides the student deeper into their mind-body connection. Practice with Alisha allows the student to create a unique and beautiful meditation in movement, gracefully transitioning from one pose to the next with the guidance of the breath.
Alisha has been guiding students mindfully on their mats for many years, and more recently has been teaching Adaptive Yoga. She is inspired by her teacher Matthew Sanford and all of the students with disabilities that she has had the honor to practice with. Her adaptive Yoga Classes are designed to meet the needs of individuals living with mobility disabilities, such as partial or total paralysis, amputation, severe spinal cord injury, severe arthritis, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, head injury, spina bifida and cerebral palsy. Her gratitude for a healthy, exciting and life full of love has led her to a lifestyle and profession that works to increase peace and love for others.
On her yogic path she received a masters training in Holistic Nutrition from Clayton College of Natural Health. She has led group cleansing programs and individualized programs for those seeking assistance with nutritional deficiencies. In 2013 she created Mindful Balance Retreats in Costa Rica and Kauai that incorporate the importance of nourishing the body with healthy foods, mindful activities and soulful adventure!
2014 will be full of educational growth as Alisha studies in an advanced teacher training program, earning her 500 E-RYT. This training will be one step closer towards her ultimate goal of being a Certified Yoga Therapist. To learn more visit

Anne Kay

Anne Kay200hr Prana Flow Yoga Instructor, Certified Pilates Instructor, Wine Extraordinaire and Creator and Founder of Vin d’Yasa
Anne has made her way to Encinitas from Chicago, stopping for 15 years
in Colorado for school and joy. It is in the Rockies she discovered so
many loves; mountains, rivers, skiing, hiking, yoga and her man. Her
yoga journey began in a tiny studio in Colorado Springs with Matthew
Lassard. He had just returned from India, studying under Sri Pattabhi
Jois. Ashtanga yoga became her daily ritual, a source of divine spirit
she had never encountered before. Her natural wanderlust has taken her
all over the world, 14 countries and still counting.
Always trying to infuse soul into her travel, Anne seeks to travel deeply; teaching English in Spain, studying Buddhism in India, cooking in Thailand and rebuilding homes in Guatemala following Hurricane Stan, always with a mat in her backpack.
While in Vail, CO her heart called beyond just a pracice, but a call to teach. Her body and heart resonated deeply with teachers in her midst, teachers of Prana Flow. This led her to master teacher Shiva Rea, with whom she completed her teacher training in Prana Flow in 2012.Since relocating to beautiful Encinitas, Anne has followed her heart passion into teaching. She brings the he(art) of vinyasa to the mat, encouraging students to explore their personal practice by tapping into an endless source of spaciousness, inspiration and creativity.
Anne has been blessed to have studied with many masters; Erich Schiffman, Mark Whitwell, Ana Forrest, Janet Stone, Elena Brower and more. She is honored to live her passions and help others enrich their experience; on the mat and in their lives.
